Can LifeWyn read my data?

Accepted Answer

No. Your vault is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, and we never receive your keys. Our servers only ever hold ciphertext and encrypted key-shares, so there is no technical way for our staff, our systems, or an attacker who breaches us to read your content.

What does “zero-knowledge” actually mean here?

Accepted Answer

It means your vault contents reach us already encrypted. Encryption and decryption happen on your devices, using keys derived from your master password. We store, transport and — under your rules — release encrypted material; the keys that turn it back into plaintext are not on our servers.

What encryption do you use?

Vault contents and documents are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305 (AEAD). Your vault passphrase is stretched into your master key with scrypt (N=2^15) on your own device, and the Category and Asset keys below it are derived with HKDF-SHA-256. Each document gets its own random key, wrapped under its category key with the same cipher. Your separate account login password is hashed server-side with Argon2id. Connections use TLS 1.2 or 1.3. We rely on well-reviewed standard primitives, not home-grown cryptography.

What happens if your servers are breached?

An attacker would find encrypted blobs and, at most, partial encrypted key-shares — none of which are useful without keys we do not store. Because reconstructing a vault key requires a threshold of shares held by different parties, a breach of our infrastructure alone does not expose your data.

Do you use my data to train models or sell it to advertisers?

Accepted Answer

No. Your vault reaches us as ciphertext and we hold no key that opens it, so it cannot be mined, profiled or sold. We process the minimal account metadata needed to run the service, and never the contents you store.

How does inheritance work without you holding my data?

Accepted Answer

Your vault key is split into several encrypted shares using threshold secret sharing (for example, 3-of-5) and distributed to nominees, trusted contacts and escrow. Inheritance never releases your plaintext — it releases these encrypted key-shares. Only when enough shares come together, under your rules, can the vault key be rebuilt on a nominee's device.

How is death or incapacity verified before release?

Release is multi-signal by design. We combine your Protection Check-Ins and inactivity monitoring with independent signals — such as nominee confirmations and your configured grace period — before any shares are released. No single signal can trigger inheritance, which protects you against mistakes and abuse.

Can a nominee see everything in my vault?

Accepted Answer

No. Access is least-privilege: each nominee can only decrypt the specific categories, assets and documents you explicitly assigned to them. Everything else remains sealed, even after release.

Can one nominee trigger release on their own?

Accepted Answer

No. Because your key is split across multiple parties and release requires multiple converging signals plus a threshold of shares, a single nominee acting alone cannot unlock anything. This is what prevents the release mechanism from being abused.

What if a nominee loses their share or passes away?

Accepted Answer

Threshold sharing is fault-tolerant: with a scheme like 3-of-5, up to two shares can be lost and the vault key can still be reconstructed. You can also rotate shares and re-assign nominees at any time from your account.

Can I change my nominees or what they inherit later?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can add or remove nominees, adjust exactly which categories and assets each one inherits, and re-issue key-shares whenever your circumstances change. Updates re-encrypt and re-distribute shares automatically.

What happens if I forget my master password?

Accepted Answer

You can recover using your recovery phrase or your configured trusted contacts, if you set those up. What we cannot do is reset it for you — because we never hold your keys, there is no back door. Setting up recovery options when you join is strongly recommended.

What is a Protection Check-In and how often does it run?

Accepted Answer

A Protection Check-In is a lightweight periodic confirmation that you are still active — a tap in the app, an email or a scheduled prompt. You choose the cadence. Missing checks starts a grace period rather than triggering anything immediately, giving you time to respond.

What if I miss a check-in while travelling or unwell?

Accepted Answer

A single missed check-in never releases anything. It begins a grace window with reminders across your channels, and inheritance only proceeds if multiple independent signals confirm inactivity. You can cancel a false alarm at any point during the window.

Is my account protected by more than a password?

Accepted Answer

Yes for signing in: we support multi-factor authentication, and high-risk actions ask for step-up MFA. Be aware that your VAULT passphrase is a separate secret and is the whole of what protects your vault — anyone who learns it can unlock your vault on any device, so never reuse it and never store it beside your account password.

Can I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can permanently delete your vault and account at any time. Since we only ever stored ciphertext, deletion removes the encrypted material entirely — there is no readable copy left behind.

Is there a free plan?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Free plan includes up to 3 nominees, an encrypted vault for up to 10 items, Protection Check-In monitoring, basic inheritance rules and full zero-knowledge encryption — enough to protect your essentials at no cost.

How much is Premium and is there a trial?

Accepted Answer

Premium is ₹299 per month or ₹2,499 per year (roughly two months free), and it starts with a 14-day free trial. It unlocks up to 20 nominees and 5 GB of storage, the advanced rule engine, document version history and the nominee claims portal.

Can I cancel anytime, and what happens to my vault?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel at any time and keep access through the end of your billing period. Afterwards your account moves to the Free plan; your encrypted vault stays intact within the Free plan's limits, and nothing is decrypted or exposed in the process.
