Question 1

Can LifeWyn read my data?

Accepted Answer

No. Your vault is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, and we never receive your keys. Our servers only ever hold ciphertext and encrypted key-shares, so there is no technical way for our staff, our systems, or an attacker who breaches us to read your content.

Question 2

What does “zero-knowledge” actually mean here?

Accepted Answer

It means your vault contents reach us already encrypted. Encryption and decryption happen on your devices, using keys derived from your master password. We store, transport and — under your rules — release encrypted material; the keys that turn it back into plaintext are not on our servers.

Question 3

What encryption do you use?

Accepted Answer

Vault contents and documents are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305 (AEAD). Your vault passphrase is stretched into your master key with scrypt (N=2^15) on your own device, and the Category and Asset keys below it are derived with HKDF-SHA-256. Each document gets its own random key, wrapped under its category key with the same cipher. Your separate account login password is hashed server-side with Argon2id. Connections use TLS 1.2 or 1.3. We rely on well-reviewed standard primitives, not home-grown cryptography.

Question 4

What happens if your servers are breached?

Accepted Answer

An attacker would find encrypted blobs and, at most, partial encrypted key-shares — none of which are useful without keys we do not store. Because reconstructing a vault key requires a threshold of shares held by different parties, a breach of our infrastructure alone does not expose your data.

Question 5

Do you use my data to train models or sell it to advertisers?

Accepted Answer

No. Your vault reaches us as ciphertext and we hold no key that opens it, so it cannot be mined, profiled or sold. We process the minimal account metadata needed to run the service, and never the contents you store.

Question 6

How does inheritance work without you holding my data?

Accepted Answer

Your vault key is split into several encrypted shares using threshold secret sharing (for example, 3-of-5) and distributed to nominees, trusted contacts and escrow. Inheritance never releases your plaintext — it releases these encrypted key-shares. Only when enough shares come together, under your rules, can the vault key be rebuilt on a nominee's device.

Question 7

How is death or incapacity verified before release?

Accepted Answer

Release is multi-signal by design. We combine your Protection Check-Ins and inactivity monitoring with independent signals — such as nominee confirmations and your configured grace period — before any shares are released. No single signal can trigger inheritance, which protects you against mistakes and abuse.

Question 8

Can a nominee see everything in my vault?

Accepted Answer

No. Access is least-privilege: each nominee can only decrypt the specific categories, assets and documents you explicitly assigned to them. Everything else remains sealed, even after release.

Question 9

Can one nominee trigger release on their own?

Accepted Answer

No. Because your key is split across multiple parties and release requires multiple converging signals plus a threshold of shares, a single nominee acting alone cannot unlock anything. This is what prevents the release mechanism from being abused.

Question 10

What if a nominee loses their share or passes away?

Accepted Answer

Threshold sharing is fault-tolerant: with a scheme like 3-of-5, up to two shares can be lost and the vault key can still be reconstructed. You can also rotate shares and re-assign nominees at any time from your account.

Question 11

Can I change my nominees or what they inherit later?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can add or remove nominees, adjust exactly which categories and assets each one inherits, and re-issue key-shares whenever your circumstances change. Updates re-encrypt and re-distribute shares automatically.

Question 12

What happens if I forget my master password?

Accepted Answer

You can recover using your recovery phrase or your configured trusted contacts, if you set those up. What we cannot do is reset it for you — because we never hold your keys, there is no back door. Setting up recovery options when you join is strongly recommended.

Question 13

What is a Protection Check-In and how often does it run?

Accepted Answer

A Protection Check-In is a lightweight periodic confirmation that you are still active — a tap in the app, an email or a scheduled prompt. You choose the cadence. Missing checks starts a grace period rather than triggering anything immediately, giving you time to respond.

Question 14

What if I miss a check-in while travelling or unwell?

Accepted Answer

A single missed check-in never releases anything. It begins a grace window with reminders across your channels, and inheritance only proceeds if multiple independent signals confirm inactivity. You can cancel a false alarm at any point during the window.

Question 15

Is my account protected by more than a password?

Accepted Answer

Yes for signing in: we support multi-factor authentication, and high-risk actions ask for step-up MFA. Be aware that your VAULT passphrase is a separate secret and is the whole of what protects your vault — anyone who learns it can unlock your vault on any device, so never reuse it and never store it beside your account password.

Question 16

Can I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can permanently delete your vault and account at any time. Since we only ever stored ciphertext, deletion removes the encrypted material entirely — there is no readable copy left behind.

Question 17

Is there a free plan?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Free plan includes up to 3 nominees, an encrypted vault for up to 10 items, Protection Check-In monitoring, basic inheritance rules and full zero-knowledge encryption — enough to protect your essentials at no cost.

Question 18

How much is Premium and is there a trial?

Accepted Answer

Premium is ₹299 per month or ₹2,499 per year (roughly two months free), and it starts with a 14-day free trial. It unlocks up to 20 nominees and 5 GB of storage, the advanced rule engine, document version history and the nominee claims portal.

Question 19

Can I cancel anytime, and what happens to my vault?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel at any time and keep access through the end of your billing period. Afterwards your account moves to the Free plan; your encrypted vault stays intact within the Free plan's limits, and nothing is decrypted or exposed in the process.

Question 20

What is the difference between a nominee and a legal heir?

Accepted Answer

A nominee receives the money and holds it; a legal heir owns it. In India these are often different people, which is why a bank can release funds to a nominee while a court is still deciding who the legal heir is. We record both a nominee and a legal heir for each account, so your family is not left guessing which one applies.

Question 21

Does LifeWyn replace my will?

Accepted Answer

No. Your will still decides who legally inherits — LifeWyn makes sure the people carrying it out can find what it refers to. If you do not have a will, LifeWyn does not create one for you, and we would encourage you to make one.

Question 22

Can LifeWyn store my EPF, PPF and NPS details?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can record your UAN or PRAN, the nominee entries you filed with each scheme, and the documents a claim will need. These are among the accounts Indian families most often lose track of, because the paperwork sits with an employer or a scheme portal rather than with the family.

Question 23

What about my locker and property papers?

Accepted Answer

Store the branch, the locker number, where the key physically sits, and who else is authorised to access it. For property, store the deed, the society or municipal paperwork, tenant contacts and tax receipts. Property itself is rarely lost — the proof of who owns it is what usually goes missing.

Question 24

Will a bank accept what my family shows them?

Accepted Answer

Banks decide claims under their own rules and the law, and LifeWyn cannot make an institution act on anything. What LifeWyn does is make sure your family arrives with the account, the branch, the nominee entry and the documents already in hand, instead of starting from a guess.

Question 25

Can I use LifeWyn if I live outside India?

Accepted Answer

Yes. LifeWyn works with accounts in any country, and stores whatever local designation your paperwork uses — nominee, beneficiary, executor or trustee.

Question 26

Can it hold a 401(k), a UK pension or superannuation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The vault does not care which country an account sits in. What changes is the word your paperwork uses for the person who receives it, and we store that designation alongside the record.

Question 27

My family is spread across several countries. Does that still work?

Accepted Answer

That is the situation LifeWyn handles best. Each person opens their own room from wherever they are, after an identity check. Nobody waits for a document to be couriered, and nobody has to be awake at the same time as anyone else.

Question 28

Is LifeWyn regulated in my country?

Accepted Answer

LifeWyn is not a financial institution and does not hold assets, so it is not regulated as one. It is operated from India under Indian law. For anything that turns on succession law where you live, speak to a professional there.

Question 29

Who runs LifeWyn?

Accepted Answer

LifeWyn is built by LifeWyn Global Private Limited, with our registered office in Bengaluru, India. It was founded by Vinod Dhakad and Kishor Dhakad. Our address is on the About page, and a person answers when you write.

Question 30

What happens if LifeWyn shuts down?

Accepted Answer

You can export everything, any day, in a documented open format that you decrypt with your own passphrase and recovery shares — it opens without our servers and without LifeWyn existing at all. Because we never hold a working copy of your key, no wind-down and no new owner can read your data. If we ever have to close, we intend to give clear advance notice and a full export window first.

Question 31

Can I get my data out whenever I want?

Accepted Answer

Yes, at any time, without asking us, in an open format. There is no export fee and no waiting period.
