Overview
India's unclaimed financial assets are spread across regulators. Dormant bank deposits (inactive 10+ years) move to the RBI's Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund and are searchable via the RBI's UDGAM portal. Unclaimed shares and dividends transfer to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF). Matured-but-unclaimed insurance sits with insurers under IRDAI rules, and forgotten EPF balances are traced via the EPFO. Reported totals are large but fragmented, hence the estimate.
