Terms of Service

The agreement between you and LifeWyn for using our zero-knowledge digital inheritance platform.

LifeWyn is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We are a software provider. Nothing here creates an attorney-client relationship or guarantees any specific legal outcome. This document is a template and must be reviewed and adapted by qualified counsel before you rely on it in production.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the websites, applications, and services provided by LifeWyn ("LifeWyn", "we", "us", or "our") (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

LifeWyn is a zero-knowledge digital inheritance platform. You store client-side-encrypted assets in a secure vault, keep your protection current through periodic check-ins, and configure rules under which encrypted key-shares are released to nominees. We store ciphertext and configuration only; the keys required to decrypt your vault stay with you and are released only when a verified event and the policy you set are met. We do store the account and contact details needed to run the service.

3. Eligibility and accounts

You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (and at least 18 years old) to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep it up to date, and to be responsible for all activity under your account. You may not share your account, use it on behalf of anyone without authority, or use the Service if barred under applicable law.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Safeguard your master password. Your master password protects the keys that decrypt your vault. We never receive or store it and cannot recover or reset it. If you lose it, your encrypted data may become permanently inaccessible. You are solely responsible for keeping it safe.
  • Keep nominees and rules current. You are responsible for accurately designating nominees, maintaining their contact details, and reviewing your inheritance rules so they reflect your wishes over time.
  • Respond to Protection Check-Ins. The verification process depends on your timely responses. Failure to respond may trigger the rules you configured.
  • Secure your devices. You are responsible for the security of the devices and accounts you use to access the Service.

5. Subscriptions, billing, and trials

Certain features require a paid subscription. Paid plans may include a 14-day free trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will begin and your payment method will be charged.

  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until cancelled.
  • Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; your paid features remain active through the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds. If something isn't right, contact us within 7 days of a charge and we will issue a full refund, no questions asked. Outside that window, and except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and partial periods are not prorated. See our Refund Policy.
  • Price changes. We may change prices; we will give reasonable advance notice, and changes apply to billing periods after the notice.

6. Inheritance and verification process

The Service uses a multi-signal verification process before releasing any encrypted key-shares. Release is not triggered by a single missed check-in; it requires multiple independent signals to converge on a verified event, subject to the rules and thresholds you configure.

We make no representation that using the Service produces any particular real-world legal effect. LifeWyn is not a substitute for a will, trust, power of attorney, or other estate-planning instrument, and does not transfer legal title to any asset. You should consult a licensed attorney or qualified estate professional to ensure your overall plan is valid and enforceable in your jurisdiction. We do not guarantee that any release will occur at a specific time, or that nominees will act as you intend.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes or to store or transmit unlawful content;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data, or to circumvent security or verification mechanisms;
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or place undue load on the Service or its infrastructure;
  • Reverse engineer, resell, or exploit the Service except as expressly permitted;
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity or authority.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and trademarks, is owned by LifeWyn and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. You retain all rights to the content you store; you grant us only the limited rights necessary to host and transmit your encrypted data to operate the Service.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that verification or release will occur exactly as expected in every circumstance.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LIFEWYN AND ITS AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS, OR LOSS OF ACCESS ARISING FROM A FORGOTTEN MASTER PASSWORD. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LifeWyn, its affiliates, and their officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; provisions that by their nature should survive — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification — survive.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which LifeWyn is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts, except where applicable law grants you rights to another forum. The specific governing law and venue must be finalized with counsel before production use.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
