Section 1 of 4 · 30% of the score

What accounts exist

Is there a written list of the accounts that matter?

Email, photos, cloud storage, domains, and anything that would be missed.

Does it say which email address each account is under?

Recovery almost always runs through an address, so the address matters more than the password.

Have you written down which one email account is the master key?

The address that can reset most of the others. Whoever holds that holds nearly everything.

Platform legacy settings

Have you set up the legacy option on your main phone or computer account?

Apple's Legacy Contact and the Android or Google equivalent, set from the account's own settings.

Have you set an inactivity plan on your main email account?

Some providers can hand over or delete an account after a period of no sign-in, if you configure it first.

Have you decided what should happen to your social accounts?

Memorialised, closed, or handed over — and written it down somewhere findable.

Getting back in

Are your passwords in one manager rather than scattered?

One place to hand over beats a list in a notebook and a browser full of saved logins.

Have you stored the two-factor recovery codes somewhere other than the phone?

Codes kept only on the device they unlock are lost with the device.

Is the device passcode recoverable by someone you trust?

A locked phone stops most digital recovery before it starts, however good the rest of the plan is.

Accounts that carry money

Have you listed the accounts holding a balance or a wallet?

Payment apps, marketplace balances, gift-card wallets, exchanges — small individually, easy to lose entirely.

Have you listed what renews automatically?

Domains and subscriptions keep charging, and a lapsed domain is usually gone for good.

Is any income-earning digital property written down?

A channel, a store, a licence — anything still paying out needs someone able to receive it.

How this score is worked out

Digital accounts fail differently from paper. Nobody sends a letter about them, several delete themselves after a period of inactivity, and the recovery method is often a phone only you can unlock.

Knowing what exists and being able to get back in carry 30% each here, because either one missing makes the others moot. Platform legacy settings and money-carrying accounts carry 20% each.

Platform features and their names change. This tool asks whether you have used them, not how they work today, and it cannot check any of your accounts.

This is a self-assessment, not advice. It scores the answers you gave against a checklist we wrote — it does not see your documents, your accounts or your jurisdiction, and it is not legal, tax or financial advice. What is required varies by country. Treat the score as a prompt for what to look at next, and speak to a qualified professional about your own situation.
